Yoga is designed to promote the health of the whole system. It helps in cooling our sympathetic system there by activating parasympathetic system. Yoga is one of the more popular modalities to maintain our holistic health. Yoga is designed to promote the health of the whole system.

Our prime minister Mr. Narendra Modiji quotes that “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature”.

Physical exercises, stretching movements, postures, breathing techniques, and Relaxation techniques help in creating self- regulation and you learn to listen to your body and honour its current state.

Today we are all dominated by the mind, specifically, the sympathetic nervous system which is the messenger system of the stress response. Yoga, however activates the parasympathetic nervous system.

Neurophysiological Changes

Spiritual practices like yoga are known to result in parasympathetic nervous system stimulation, decrease in heart rate, oxygen consumption and blood pressure, cortisol, nor adrenaline and increases in oxytocin, GABA, serotonin and dopamine. These are associated with increased alpha waves in EEG, decreased proinflammatory state in the body with improved immunity, healthy gut microbiome, decreased telomerase activity, increased neurogenesis and synaptogenesis and maturation of prefrontal cortex and improved emotional regulation by decreased activity in limbic system.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF ONENESS OR YOGA

Jnana yoga is path of oneness understanding & living in the truth. The Source of existence in jnana yoga is analyzed and supported by science Quantum physics. Scientific spirituality is one of the jnana yoga. Jnana yoga is path of oneness involving living with the truth by upholding the fact that our Center- remains forever whereas periphery [ ecosystem] has birth and death. Center is our inner self which has no birth and death hence Everpresent. Our periphery or outer self or ecosystem is only dynamic expression of inner self.

Bhakthi yoga is path of oneness through love and devotion to truth. “Bhakti is about creating a loving relationship with the source.” Practicing bhakti yoga means seeing everyone and everything as a creation of source. Bhakti yoga is the lively feeling of oneness with that spirit.

Path of oneness through action is karma yoga which involves creating meaning in life depending on your unique design. Similarly, path of oneness with oneself is dhyana yoga, Path of oneness with body is hatha yoga & Path of oneness by losing yourself with music is nada yoga.

In conclusion When practiced properly Yoga can make you happy, reduce stress hormones, lower blood pressure and heart rate, reduce states of depression, anxiety and psychosomatic disorders, increase positivity, release endorphins which provide natural pain relief, relax muscles throughout the body, change perspectives for the better, and exert positive benefits on mental functions contributing to healthy self-regulation.
